Not to make a list, because the list would be far too long, but there are several awesome folks out there who deserve a shout out from the doughnut guys.
Jamie Kilstein
After going to the "Comedy for Karma" show, a comedy night benefit for Woodstock Farm Animal Sanctuary, we met a couple really cool vegan comedians. If you haven't heard him before check out Jamie Kilstein. Apart from making a great shout out for us on his widely followed news radio show, Citizen Radio, he will be one of our new official doughnut tasters and flavor inventors.
Here's one of his acts from a couple years ago: Jamie Kilstein at the Comedy Store UK
Mariann Sullivan & Jasmin Singer of Our Hen House
If you haven't tuned in yet, Our Hen House brings you a tremendous animal rights podcast. In there words: "Our Hen House produces resources that you can use in order to find your own way to change the world for animals. Using video, audio, interviews, reviews, and the written word, it provides daily updates on what you need to create change. Change makers come in all shapes and sizes –- artists, grassroots activists, academics, lawyers, students, business moguls, media darlings, etc. No matter what your niche is, Our Hen House aims to give you what you need to be part of a new world for animals."
These two rock the vegan radio waves with fantastic interviews with such amazing vegan activists as Nathan Runkle of Mercy for Animal, Gene Bauer of Farm Sanctuary, and Jane Valez-Mitchell of CNN's Issues with Jane Valez-Mitchell.
We met this couple at the Vegetarian Food Festival a week ago. Check out their most recent podcast, in which they reminisce over the incredible success of the event and brim with disappointment over having not been picked to be in the doughnut eating competition! Sara Sohn of Sweet N Sara
We love Sara almost as much as we love her Marshmallows
It was such a treat to go visit her and get a special tour of her vegan factory before she imparted some samples on us which we experimented with to create perhaps the world's first (or at least BEST) vegan smores, and rocky road doughnuts. They're keepers folks, and so is this rad vegan gal!!!
Sara Sohn has been vegan for 18 years. A few years back, she decided it had been way too long since she’d had one of her favorite childhood snacks: the rice crispy treat. With no culinary background but a lot of determination (and vegan sweets on the mind), Sara began her quest to create a vegetarian and vegan marshmallow, “the Holy Grail of animal-free sweet treats.” Food scientists warned her that her attempts would be futile and that reproducing the properties of gelatin in marshmallows would be impossible. More determined than ever, after ten months of tireless experimentation, Sara finally came up with a recipe for the perfect marshmallow: rich, creamy, mouthwatering, and completely gelatin-free! Vegan marshmallows are now a reality and you too can enjoy the end result of Sara’s hard work.
Blythe Boyd, cofounder of Lula's Sweet Apothecary
Blythe is perhaps one of our greatest inspirations. I think we will forever be indebted to this superstar vegan. Thanks for the inspiration and support that turned the dream of Dun-Well Doughnuts into a reality!
Lula's Sweet Apothecary is New York City's first all-natural, non-dairy and vegan frozen dessert shop. In the heart of the East Village, this vegan gem is worth visiting on a regular basis. And keep an eye out for future collaborations. Doughnut sundae anyone???
Joshua Katcher, aka "The Discerning Brute"
Josh has been such an awesome supporter of ours and we are so happy to know him. Christopher met him about 2 years ago through Ryan Pfluger and has always been impressed with the passion and refinement behind his work.
